Experimental Quantum Target Detection Approaching the Fundamental Helstrom Limit

چکیده
Quantum target detection is an emerging application that utilizes entanglement to enhance the sensing of presence object. Although several experimental demonstrations for certain situations have been reported recently, single-shot limit imposed by Helstrom has not reached because unknown optimum measurements. Here we report demonstration quantum detection, also known as illumination, in single-photon limit. In our experiment, one photon maximally entangled pair employed probe signal and corresponding measurement implemented at receiver. We explore problem different regions parameter space verify advantage exists even a forbidden region conventional where all classical schemes become useless. Our results indicate illumination breaks up 40%, while approaching These only demonstrate but manifest its valuable potential detection.

Quantum cryptography approaching the classical limit.
We consider the security of continuous-variable quantum cryptography as we approach the classical limit, i.e., when the unknown preparation noise at the sender's station becomes significantly noisy or thermal (even by as much as 10(4) times greater than the variance of the vacuum mode). We show that, provided the channel transmission losses do not exceed 50%, the security of quantum cryptograph...
متن کاملApproaching the standard quantum limit of mechanical torque sensing
Reducing the moment of inertia improves the sensitivity of a mechanically based torque sensor, the parallel of reducing the mass of a force sensor, yet the correspondingly small displacements can be difficult to measure. To resolve this, we incorporate cavity optomechanics, which involves co-localizing an optical and mechanical resonance. With the resulting enhanced readout, cavity-optomechanic...
متن کاملApproaching the quantum limit of a nanomechanical resonator.
By coupling a single-electron transistor to a high-quality factor, 19.7-megahertz nanomechanical resonator, we demonstrate position detection approaching that set by the Heisenberg uncertainty principle limit. At millikelvin temperatures, position resolution a factor of 4.3 above the quantum limit is achieved and demonstrates the near-ideal performance of the single-electron transistor as a lin...
متن کاملApproaching the Heisenberg Limit Without Single-Particle Detection: Supplemental Material
In this supplement, we derive the effective one-axis twisting dynamics of an atomic ensemble coupled to a driven optical cavity [1–3]. This system has been analyzed elsewhere, but we know of no comprehensive treatment using the Lindblad master equation formalism. We also establish an equivalence between the twisting dynamics of the driven cavity scheme and the twisting dynamics of a four-photon...
متن کاملApproaching the Heisenberg Limit without Single-Particle Detection.
We propose an approach to quantum phase estimation that can attain precision near the Heisenberg limit without requiring single-particle-resolved state detection. We show that the "one-axis twisting" interaction, well known for generating spin squeezing in atomic ensembles, can also amplify the output signal of an entanglement-enhanced interferometer to facilitate readout. Applying this interac...
